SUMMARY:CLIB forum event "Catalysing Alliances for Greener Products"
DESCRIPTION:The development of sustainable and resource-saving processes is a major focus of R&D&I work\, also supported heavily by the European Commission as part of the Green Deal and the sustainability efforts. Four international research projects\, all funded via the EU Horizon2020 framework\, are currently exploring the utilisation of enzymes in a variety of industrial applications to make our products greener. \nWithin the project HiPerIn 2.0\, CLIB is looking at industry sectors which could benefit from a structural change away from fossil-based towards biotechnological processes based on renewable substrates. The targeted product groups combine high functionality\, designable product properties\, and a high added value. We are focusing on five targeted sectors: Textiles & Fibres\, Coatings & Adhesives\, Personal & Home Care\, Food & Feed\, and Flavours & Fragrances. \nWe are happy to dedicate our annual end-of-year December forum to the four EU-funded projects FuturEnzyme\, EnXylaScope\, OXIPRO and RADICALZ\, giving them a platform to present their concept and selected scientific results with a high linkage towards industrial applications to an interested international audience. \nIn this CLIB online forum event\, you will hear from researchers and experts about the opportunities and challenges in the development and production of novel enzymes which will revolutionise common consumer products. SUMMARY:Cellulose Fibres Conference
DESCRIPTION:Zellulosefasern gehören zu den Gewinnern der europäischen „Single-Use Plastics-Directive (SUPD)“\, die seit Juli 2021 in Kraft ist und die Kunststoff-Verbote für etliche Einwegprodukte bedeutet. Die Zellulose ist der Hauptbestanteil der pflanzlichen Zellwände und ein natürliches Polymer. Daher werden Einwegprodukte aus Zellulose und Zellulosefasern nicht als Kunststoff gekennzeichnet und sind aus der Verordnung explizit ausgenommen. Die Erfolgsstory der Zellulosefasern wird sich damit mit Innovationen und neuen Anwendungen beschleunigt fortsetzen. \nAufbauend auf dem Erfolg der diesjährigen Konferenz mit 200 Teilnehmern\, wird die International Conference on Cellulose Fibres 2022 erneut die gesamte Wertschöpfungskette abdecken\, von Lignozellulose\, Chemiezellstoff\, Zellulosefasern wie Rayon\, Viskose\, Modal oder Lyocell und Neuentwicklungen bis hin zu einer breiten Palette von Anwendungen: Textilien aller Art\, Vliesstoffe wie Feuchttücher und neue Bereiche wie Komposite oder Nanozellulose in der Lebensmittelindustrie. All diese Sektoren haben in den letzten Jahren erheblich an Dynamik gewonnen. \nZellulosefasern sind eine Erfolgsgeschichte innerhalb des Textilmarktes mit einer durchschnittlichen jährlichen Wachstumsrate (CAGR) zwischen 5 und 10 % in den letzten zehn Jahren – ähnliche Wachstumsraten werden für das nächste Jahrzehnt erwartet. Damit sind Zellulosefasern die am schnellsten wachsende Fasergruppe in der Textilindustrie und auch der größte Investitionssektor in der globalen Bioökonomie. Die Herausforderung besteht nun darin\, ein Gleichgewicht zwischen der laufenden Kapazitätserweiterung und der wachsenden Nachfrage zu erzielen – um Überkapazitäten zu vermeiden\, aber auch um die steigende Nachfrage der großen Marken zu decken. Angetrieben werden diese hohen Wachstumsraten durch die hohe Nachfrage nach natürlichen Fasern (und Engpässe in der Baumwollproduktion)\, die Mikroplastik-Problematik und Verbote von Kunststoffen in Einweg-Anwendungen. Alle drei Faktoren werden auch in Zukunft eine wichtige Rolle für die Entwicklung des Sektors spielen. \nSchwerpunkte der Konferenz: \n• Was sind die neuesten Technologie- und Markttrends? \n• Wie sieht die künftige Marktdynamik aus? Wer ist im Zellulosefasersektor aktiv und interessiert? \n• Was sind die größten Herausforderungen bei der Entwicklung neuer Wertschöpfungsketten und der wachsenden Marktnachfrage? \n• Welche Ökosysteme und Partnerschaften sind erforderlich\, um Innovationen entsprechend den neuen Marktanforderungen voranzutreiben? \n• Wie wird sich das politische Umfeld in Zukunft entwickeln? \n• Welche Auswirkungen haben die Plastikverbote bei Einwegprodukten? Die Vermeidung von Mikroplastik und die Transformation von fossilen zu erneuerbaren Rohstoffen? \n• Wie kann die Nachhaltigkeit der Zellulosefaserproduktion weiter verbessert werden? \n• Welche alternativen Rohstoffe für Zellulosefasern sind geeignet und verfügbar? \n  \n

Sie werden über das Metabolic Engineering zur Fixierung von CO2\, über Pflanzenbiotechnologie für robuste Getreidepflanzen und über die Nutzung von elektrischer Energie für biotechnologische Verfahren berichten. Nach der Diskussionsrunde mit dem Publikumfolgt die Verleihung des Preises des Zukunftsforums mit einem Kurzvortrag. DESCRIPTION:Das Interesse an der Thematik “Alternative Proteinpflanzen und Insektenprotein” ist groß\, wie unser vorangegangenes Forum “The future of alternative proteins – Meeting the experts”  am 5. April 2022 gezeigt hat. Aus diesem Grund wollen wir einen Schritt weiter gehen und uns durch das Angebot von zwei weiteren Veranstaltungen nun der Praxis zuwenden. Das ist unsere erste Veranstaltung: Die Exkursion. \n\nDie erste Veranstaltung (als Exkursion am 31. August 2022) widmet sich der Produktion von Insektenprotein. Hierzu besuchen wir die Insect School der Firma Insect Engineers in Horst\, nahe Venlo. SUMMARY:Fantastic enzymes: Where and how to find them
DESCRIPTION:The agenda and short abstracts of the presentations are now available and can be downloaded here. \nThe development of sustainable and resource-saving processes is a major focus of R&D&I work\, also supported heavily by the European Commission as part of the Green Deal and the sustainability efforts. In this context\, biotechnology is already acting as a facilitator to achieve a circular economy and a bioeconomy. With CLIB’s involvement\, the EU-funded project FuturEnzyme is trying to achieve big goals with the identification\, optimisation\, production and application of innovative enzymes to support the transformation of various industrial sectors and their consumer products. Within the project HiPerIn 2.0\, CLIB is looking at cross-cutting issues that could support different industry sectors in a structural change away from fossil-based towards biotechnological processes. We are looking forward to presenting the competences and topics we acquire or work on in FuturEnzyme to an interested international audience. With this CLIB Forum event\, we want to emphasise and promote the need for collaboration between researchers\, entrepreneurs and manufacturers for a greener and more sustainable future. Furthermore\, policy makers\, funding bodies\, investors and consumers are happily invited to join this event. \nThe FuturEnzyme project partners CSIC\, Barcelona Supercomputing Center and the University of Hamburg will present their activities in the project and beyond. SUMMARY:Circular Economy Hotspot
DESCRIPTION:Since 2016\, the annual summit of international companies\, political actors and experts in the field of Circular Economy has taken place in locations such as the Netherlands\, Luxembourg\, Scotland or Belgium. At these hotspots\, presentations are held over several days and excursions to good examples of companies were made in order to get to know showcase examples and projects and to exchange ideas. In September 2022\, the hotspot will come to North Rhine-Westphalia\, Bottrop! It will be organised by the city of Bottrop together with the research project Prosperkolleg and supported by the NRW Ministry of Economics. The event is seen as an opportunity to make the complex topic of the circular economy tangible for a large target group. In this way\, the long-term opportunities in the region of circular strategies are to be demonstrated. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
