Green Science Slam @ FRANZ Aachen

On the 27th of November, Tobias Klement and Peter Stoffels visited the Green Science Slam at the FRANZ in Aachen. This event was quite special because it combined an entertaining science slam with an information event on the innovation projects in the Rhenish mining area.

The Green Science Slam was funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space and organised by the Research Network Modellregion Bioökonomie im Rheinischen Revier, featuring the projects Bioökonomie Verstehen. Verbinden. Unterstützen, the Bio4MatPro Competence Centre, and the BioökonomieREVIER innovation cluster. Moreover, the CLIB team represented the graduate cluster AUFBRUCH, which supports doctoral candidates through interdisciplinary training and inspiration to actively shape the transformation of the Rhineland mining region.

 

The professional duo of presenters, the curious Aachen audience, and renowned science slammers ensured that the event was sold out with over 250 participants. Some of these slammers also studied in Aachen, adding a touch of nostalgia to their performance.

This format was a resounding success, and we are delighted to say that this was just the beginning. In 2026, students from the region will have the opportunity to become science slammers themselves. Interested doctoral and postdoctoral students will be trained to improve their presentation skills in workshops on stage presence and performance. Later, these “bioeconomy ambassadors” will have the opportunity to appear as stars in a series of planned science slams in various cities in the region.
