AUFBRUCH doctoral students visit Evonik in Marl

As part of a full-day industry excursion, doctoral students from the AUFBRUCH graduate cluster visited the Marl Chemical Park on October 8 to gain insights into the industrial research and production of one of the world’s leading specialty chemicals companies: Evonik Industries.

The aim of the event was to bring young scientists into contact with industry partners at an early stage, to provide insights into industrial innovation processes, and to build bridges between academic research, business practice, and sustainable transformation. The Marl Chemical Park is one of the largest integrated chemical sites in Germany and an important hub for the chemical industry in Europe.

A key highlight of the visit was the presentation of Evonik’s innovation unit Creavis. Here, the Rheticus pilot project was presented, which is transferring CO₂-based chemical production to a large scale and will make an important contribution to climate-neutral industrial production. The project illustrated the connection between technological pioneering work and sustainability goals in an industrial context.
