The Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) recently presented the new High-Tech Agenda Germany. With this agenda, the federal government is realigning its research, technology and innovation policy – with a clear focus on greater added value, competitiveness and sovereignty. Six key technologies are identified and placed at the centre of the agenda:

  • Artificial intelligence
  • Quantum technologies
  • Microelectronics
  • Biotechnology
  • Fusion and climate-neutral energy production
  • Technologies for climate-neutral mobility

In addition, strategic research areas are defined. Measures are to be taken in the key technologies and research fields to improve the transfer of research achievements to industry, simplify start-up foundation, and reduce bureaucracy.

A kick-off event for the High-Tech Agenda Germany will be held in Berlin in October 2025. This event will mark the start of two central strands through which the agenda is to be advanced: technology roadmaps for the six priority key technologies and the further development of the key technology portfolio. In the future, a high-tech summit will be held to take stock and bring together the strands of the roadmap and portfolio processes.
