On 15 January 2025, the “Industrial Bioeconomy” dialogue platform met with the head of the “Industrial Policy” department, Dr. Beate Baron, at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.

This meeting followed the discussions that took place during the symposium “Researching, developing, scaling, transforming – shaping the bioeconomy together for sustainability and competitiveness” and is another milestone in setting priorities and policy direction towards an industrial bioeconomy in Germany.

CLIB was represented by our cluster manager Dennis Herzberg, who gave an impulse on the topic of “Important projects of common European interest” and highlighted the potential for an IPCEI Biotechnologies.

Other inputs were given on topics that will be further developed by the dialogue platform in the coming months:

– A possible emissions trading systems (ETS) for renewable carbon

– A possible quota system for renewable carbon in products

– Amendments to the Circularity and Waste Management Act

– Revision of existing GMO legislation in the EU

The CLIB office and the Executive Board will be actively involved in the process and the working groups formed in the first quarter of 2025.

If you are a CLIB member and part of the dialogue platform, we look forward to your participation in this process. Let’s work together for a strong industrial bioeconomy.
