Continuation of the talks on strengthening the industrial bioeconomy in NRW – CLIB

Minister of Economic Affairs Neubaur in dialogue with North Rhine-Westphalian industry

North Rhine-Westphalia is amid a transition towards a sustainable and resilient economy. The state government, represented by Minister Mona Neubaur, is focussing on the bioeconomy as a key strategy to pave the way to a climate-friendly future. The aim is to keep the business location competitive, secure prosperity and protect the environment at the same time.

The focus here is on a comprehensive shift: not only the energy supply is to be converted to renewable sources, but also the feedstock base. The bioeconomy offers a promising solution for this. It involves closing material cycles, the intelligent utilisation of biomass and the industrial scaling of these processes to make the economy fit for the future.

The dialogue between politics and industry that already began in 2024 is essential here. By exchanging ideas and developing joint strategies, the bioeconomy is to be firmly anchored in NRW. This time, Mona Neubaur’s dialogue with North Rhine-Westphalian industry focused on ideas for smart networks, regional carbon concepts and visions for a genuine bioeconomy hub in NRW.

Minister Mona Neubaur emphasised: “Bioeconomy is no longer a dream of the future, it is a central building block for a sustainable and competitive economy in North Rhine-Westphalia. Together with our industry, we are developing solutions that work in practice. Through dialogue, we can cooperatively secure the competitiveness of the region and lead North Rhine-Westphalia into a resilient and sustainable future.”

As in the first discussion with representatives of North Rhine-Westphalian industry and Minister Neubaur, CLIB was able to support the preparation of the discussion in close coordination with the Bioeconomy Department of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Protection and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and co-moderate and accompany the discussion in the person of Ms Sarah Refai.

By continuing the dialogue and the resulting tasks, politics and industry are sending a clear signal for the bioeconomy in NRW and demonstrating how business and the environment can go hand in hand to create a more resilient and environmentally friendly future.
