ReCO2NWert annual meeting at Babor Beauty Cluster

This week, the ReCO₂NWert consortium met at the Babor Beauty Cluster in Eschweiler for our annual meeting. Packed in a full-day program, the progress of the first project year was presented and discussed by all partners. In this highly interdisciplinary project, we support the development of a versatile microbial production platform based on gas fermentation. Flue gases provided by a waste incineration plant are reduced electrochemically and the fermentation products are upgraded and tested by Babor for the implementation into cosmetic formulations. All work packages are progressing as planned and some important decisions on the conceptual design (e.g., choice of final biocatalyst and DSP route) were prepared. These decisions will be evaluated by the Advisory Board and made by the project consortium in the coming year.

The presentations were supplemented by a guided tour through Babor’s filling and finishing center, built in 2021 near our second industry partner in the consortium, the MVA Weisweiler. All cosmetic products that are produced by the Babor Beauty Group in Aachen are filled and finished at this site in Eschweiler and shipped around the globe. We would like to thank the whole Babor team for their hospitality and the whole project team for their active participation.
